Rediff kicks off a Campaign to fight for Social Cause in India

Today, Indian online portal Rediff.com kicked off a novel initiative to mobilize the internet users to offer their support for the cause of open spaces and eve teasing. Under this idea, Rediff also introduced two new television campaigns with the punch line of “Ek Rediffmail Bhejke toh dekho,” which literally means “See the difference by simply sending one Rediffmail.” These lines are actually to induce individuals to stand up for what is correct, pushing them to step ahead and extend their support by sending an email.

The press event, which was held at Mumbai, also saw Rediff demonstrating a new micro site through which users can lend their support to either of the two causes and also access details of several other NGOs that are listed with the portal’s social cause.

Present at the event, addressing the issues was Rediff VP Manish Agarwal, who stated, “Internet as a medium has evolved from being niche to part of every youth’s life. It promises to act as a catalyst for the Indian youth who is looking to make a difference and our entire initiative is an effort to create awareness amongst youth and provide them an interactive platform to participate and lend their support to the cause.”

Extending their support for the cause were leading social workers such as Gerson Da Cunha and Meher Rafaat from leading Indian NGOs. Also present were girl icons Sagarika Ghatge and Chitrashi Rawat from Bollywood cult film Chak De India. They all expressed the importance of having open spaces in the city of Mumbai and their keenness to do something to guard the few open spaces left in the city. Further on, they also pointed out on the severity of the issue of eve teasing that is increasingly going out of the control of authorities and the police officials.

If you want to lend your support towards the initiative too, then send an email to foropenspaces@rediffmail.com and fighteveteasing@rediffmail.com and make a difference.
